| Doulos Update - 3 March |
|
Dear friends and co-workers, An offer was made recently by a party interested in preserving the ship, and who has access to the resources needed to make this a viable proposition. We have now accepted this offer, subject to agreeing on the details in a 'memorandum of agreement' (MOA), which needs to happen before the sale. Please pray for the prospective buyers as arrangements are being put in place, and for a successful outcome very soon. By tomorrow evening, the community on board will be reduced to the 'final voyage crew' of 35 people. The Director Seelan Govender, his wife Carlien and their daughter will leave this evening (Wednesday 3 March). I am deeply grateful for Seelan's leadership of the community through this difficult time for all, and wish them God's blessing as they return to South Africa and as they make decisions about their future. The team remaining on board is now being led by Captain Dirk Geuze and Technical Manager and Company Representative Elon Alva, who is also fufilling the role of Chief Engineer. Elon will leave on Friday, when Harald Smit will take over as Chief Engineer and Company Representative. All on board need our support as they wait for sale arrangements to be completed. This group will only be able to leave once the ship has been delivered to new owners. Doulos will need to leave the berth at Keppel Marina by Friday 5 March, but arrangements are being put in place for the ship to move to another berth. Once again, we are so grateful for your ongoing partnership in these days, and appreciate all the expressions of support we have received. We realise that some would like much more information about the negotiations, but it's not appropriate to release more details at this point. In Him |
