Global Challenge: STEP |
Short Term Exposure Programme (STEP)If you are interested in short-term work with OM Ships International, then take the next STEP! Usually around two to four months, this programme gives participants a taste of world-wide service in a multicultural environment. STEP On BoardMeet two participants of the first ever STEP On Board on Logos Hope Community Life Living in a community of 400 from around 50 different countries is both a rewarding experience and a challenge. You will be sharing a cabin with up to three other people, and will have limited space and privacy. However, you will find great opportunities within this to build deep friendships, and, as well, to interact with local people in port communities, both informally and through organised programmes and teams. Practical Work You will work eight hours a day, five days a week in one of our work departments, such as the galley (kitchen), cleaning or book fair teams. While work clothes and training will be provided on board, you will need to bring along willing hands to serve wherever you are needed! Along with a five day work week, a sixth day is designated for ministry or training opportunities. Spiritual Growth Our hope is that every person on board deepens their relationship with God, and learns how to apply and share their faith in a relevant way. Community activities, such as morning devotions, study groups and prayer times, are all designed with this goal in mind. As well, you will have access to training and resources such as teaching mp3s and DVDs. You will be sharing a home with a team family, or you might be able to share an apartment with other STEP team members. However, you will find great opportunities within this to build deep friendships, and, as well, to interact with local people in Florence, South Carolina in the United States, both informally and through organised team events. Practical Work Most of your eight hour a day, five days a week work time will be spent working alongside our literature team that oversees the receiving, sorting and packing of books to be sent to Logos Hope and around the world. You will need to be able to lift heavy boxes and to bring along willing hands to serve wherever you are needed! Spiritual Growth Our hope is that every person that comes to serve on shore deepens their relationship with God, and learns how to apply and share their faith in a relevant way. Community activities, team and personal devotions, study groups and prayer times, are all designed with this goal in mind. As well, you will have access to team training resources such as teachings from local ministers and media presentations. Some quotes from participants in our STEP programme: "I've never really done ministry like that at home and I was so blessed to see God work through me and use me to touch people's lives." "Working alongside people of different nationalities in the crew was a real highlight." "Joining the STEP was a wonderful experience for me. I feel very blessed to have been a part of this team and feel I have grown in my faith through it. I was very sad to leave the ship and the many friends made there." "One of my main highlights was the wonderful sense of Christian unity among those on board. I really felt part of a 'family' and this was very special." |
