In order for our ships to be able to sail from port to port, we need both those willing to join for one or two years to serve where needed as well as professionals that fill specific roles on board. The Global Service programme offers opportunities for personnel with skills such as deck and engineering officers and ratings, doctors, cooks, electricians, plumbers, welders, fitters, toolmakers, carpenters, bookkeepers, journalists, photographers, designers, information technology and audio visual professionals. Opportunities are also given for professional personnel to participate in a broad spectrum of ship community and public programme events.



Current Openings

Below is a list of some specific positions we currently need to fill, both on board our ships as well as based on shore. These openings require personnel with suitable training and/or experience but we also have a lot of openings available on our ships for people who just want to serve. Please note: All jobs/opportunities on this site are unsalaried. Most people joining OM Ships have to raise financial support to cover their living expenses, usually through gifts from home churches and other supporters.

Description:
The ICT team supports the onboard crew with ICT functions aboard the MV Logos Hope and ensures the systems required to perform those functions are available and functioning correctly.

Requirements:
More Information:
• You will provide end user support to the business users on the ship. Ensuring their issues are solved and the user is trained/communicated with in any preventative measures for the future.
• You will be responsible for managing people’s accounts and the creation of, as well as ensuring our security policies are adhered to.
• You will monitor all ICT hardware and software to ensure its proper function. Correcting any problems that arise as a matter of priority.
• You will be ‘on duty’ on a regular schedule and will be required to respond to ICT emergencies out of hours. You will also be responsible for checking all regularly scheduled activities have taken place eg Backup systems.
• You will provide support, as appropriate, for people’s personal devices and be involved in the education and training of people in the use of the ICT systems.
• You will also be assigned projects and be able to contribute ideas for the improvement and development of the ships systems.

Requirements:
• You will regularly be dealing with people and will need to be patient, friendly and approachable to them.
• You are a good team player, willing to help one another and share information freely.
• Flexibility, particularly around working hours, will be essential. Appreciating the urgency of a job and the priorities that may need to be altered is very important. 
• You are well acquainted with the Microsoft Windows operating system, ideally multiple versions. A significant bonus is experience of networking or the Windows Server architecture.
• You are able to follow policies and procedures precisely and recognise any changes that may have an impact outside of your particular task.
• You will seek the guidance of your colleagues and ICT Manager whenever you are uncertain, recognising the power you have to impact the ships ministry by your mistakes.

Description:
The Logos Hope is in need of an experienced Plumber to work with the maintenance team. You will work with domestic water systems throughout the vessel: fresh water lines, black and grey waste water systems, drainage systems, certain hydraulic and refrigeration systems.

• You have qualifications and several years of experience as a plumber.
• You are able to work independently and have experience in working with threaded fittings, small diameter copper and steel pipes, plastic piping, brazing and soldering, crimped fittings, etc.
• You have problem-solving skills and you are manually skilled.
• You have the ability to work with a small team and contribute to the overall project goals regarding personal and environmental safety, efficiency and quality.
• Good English ability, both in spoken and written form.

Description:
As a Bakery team we produce quality baked items for those in the ship’s community & the local visitors who come to our I-Café and events on board. Our purpose is two-fold, to feed, bless & encourage those serving in the ship’s community, and to provide items creating an hospitable environment to connect with our visitors.

Requirements:
What will be your tasks and responsibilities in this role?
·        You are responsible for making the crew’s bread & desserts
·        You are responsible for producing items sold in the International Café
·        You will create & cater a variety of high-quality items to events on board, from simple cakes, to receptions, to plated desserts

What are the requirements (skills/competences) for this role?
·        You have experience with baking breads, cakes, desserts, etc.

Description:
We are looking for a Director of Information and Technology to lead and give strategic direction in providing current Information & Communication Technologies.

Requirements:
In your role you will be responsible lead leaders and the IT department in order to help ensure well supported and motivated IT staff. You will give strategic leadership with regards to ICT in order to help ensure OM Ships sustainability in the area of IT. You will provide global information technology systems in order to meet national and international standards.You will Identify and communicate the skill sets and training needs required to fulfil the ICT strategy. You will provide professional development of ICT personnel in consultant with the managing HR Director and oversee the yearly performance appraisals. You will create and oversee an annual budget in order to ensure good financial management. You will ensure clear communication in happening at all levels with regards ICT. You will ensure robust project management methodology is followed in order to ensure a professional approach to ICT management.  You will provide an integrated system that looks at the whole not just the part in order to ensure an integrated approach to ICT.

You will help promote the Ship Ministry to a global audience through the web and social media and help support IT needs for this team.

Working with the onshore Marketing and Communications team, you will be responsible for:
- Maintaining, developing and supporting the Ship Ministry’s website properties to ensure smooth operation, adequate security and ongoing progress to meet the ministry needs.
- Maintaining, developing and supporting the OM Ships e-communications systems to provide more effective communications for e-mail, facebook, twitter, YouTube, etc. Monitoring and reporting on website analytics and e-communications results to improve methods and processes.
- Training other users in best practices for these systems.
In addition this role will help support the team’s IT needs as the onsite support specialist.

Job Requirement:

Description:
The Logos Hope is in need of an experienced machinist to produce one off and low volume parts for use on-board. You will report to the 1st Engineers and support the Engineering team on-board. The Logos Hope has a well-equipped Machine Shop with several manual lathes, milling machine, press drills and hand power tools.

Requirements:
The ship will be sailing around the coast of Africa until at least the end of 2016.

Description:

Requirements:
The Navigational Officer is responsible to the Master for:-
(a) Conducting an efficient navigational watch at sea for 8 hours per day and duty watches in port.
(b) Whilst on port duties, ensuring that the moorings and gangways are frequently checked, especially in ports with strong tides and high tidal ranges. He shall also check that the vessel's courtesy flags are always in position correctly.
(c) Participating in emergency drills, including Fire and Abandon Ship Drills, and fulfilling his particular duties in accordance to instructions on the Muster List.
(d) Fulfilling his assigned duties in relation to the vessel's SMS and the requirements of the SOPM.
(e) In port, working under the leadership of the Chief Mate in the fulfilment of the Deck Department's responsibilities towards maintaining the vessel in accordance with the planned maintenance programme.
(f) Participating in the testing of all navigational equipment, steering gear, bridge controls and telegraph, communications equipment and whistle prior to the vessel leaving port.
(g) Participating in all training activities given for the benefit of new crewmembers and volunteer recruits. Such training shall emphasise all safety matters, fire fighting, the saving of life, the prevention of pollution and the Company's SEP. Specific training shall also be given to new crew members joining the Deck Department to prepare them for the daily work within the department.
(h) As necessary, completing the various checks indicated on the sailing and arrival checklists.
(i) Uncovering all lifeboats prior to departure and covering them again on arrival in port. He shall also check the lifeboat batteries.

• Welding experience preferably in marine environment with expert knowledge in SMAW (stick), GMAW (MIG) and TIG welding techniques.
• Holder of certificate for plate and pipe welding.
• Knowledge and experience in the use of electric tools, heating torch, plasma cutter, pipe bending machine, threading machine, etc. and with pre- and post- welding heat treating processes
• Problem-solving skills and manual dexterity.
• Preferably having good fitting experience and skills.
• You have the ability to work with a small team and contribute to the overall project goals regarding personal and environmental safety, efficiency and quality.

Description:
We are looking for a Information and Communication Support engineer to support the administration of ICT functions in order to help ensure continuity of work for all IT users.

Requirements:
In your role you will maintain software on shore based hardware and integrated systems in order to ensure systems are up to date to prevent security breaches and users operate these system correctly. You will respond to the daily help desk requests and deliver solutions in order to help ensure end users can operate systems with as little as interruption as possible. You will purchase hardware and software agreed by the ICT Operation Manager in order to ensure a relevant software is available and a stable and reliable ICT platform is provided for end-users.

Description:
In your role you will be responsible for the development and oversight of our sales strategy and sales team within our Literature ministry.

Requirements:
You set vision and strategy. You have experience in oversight of organizational sales strategy development, managing sales and understanding sales analytics. You have experience in sales revenue and profit forecasting with evidence of successful implementation of sales strategies and the ability to manage them. You preferably have experience in sales in the literature and/or media markets and the ability to train staff effectively. You take initiative and responsibility. • Ensuring the proper maintenance of Main Engines and auxiliaries in order that the equipment keeps working and is up to the required standard
• Support the First Engineer Operations and Marine Operations team on board in order to help ensure a balanced workload

• Valid Seafarer’s Medical Certificate in compliance with ILO/IMO Guidelines

• You will have the technical knowledge and ability to fulfil the requirements of the job description as found in the company’s SMS, accountable to the Chief Engineer.

All certificates should have been revalidated within the last 5 years

Description:
To perform skilled maintenance, repair and inspection work on Logos Hope’s complex refrigeration & HVAC equipment.

Requirements:
-Experience and training with refrigeration systems.
-Technical background and experience in refrigeration.
-Good ability to write and speak in English.
-Computer literate – especially in MS Office.
-Ability to read technical plans and fault find.
-Ability to work with hands and use power tools.

Commitment Length: 6-12 months

Description:
The Logos Hope is in need of an experienced electricians. You will report to the Electrical Officer and support the Engineering team on-board.
The Logos Hope has a wide variety of electrical systems and generates it’s own power on-board. Experience of working on-board ships whilst very useful is not essential. Experience of commercial systems is desired.

Requirements:
The ship will be sailing around the coast of Africa until at least the end of 2016.

Description:
If you are interested in short-term work with OM Ships International, then take the next STEP! Usually around three to four months, this programme gives participants a taste of world-wide service in a multicultural environment.

Requirements:
Community Life

Living in a community of 400 from around 50 different countries is both a rewarding experience and a challenge. You may be sharing a cabin with up to nine other people, and will have limited space and privacy. However, you will find great opportunities within this to build deep friendships, and, as well, to interact with local people in port communities, both informally and through organised programmes and teams.

Practical Work

You will work eight hours a day, five days a week in one of our work departments, such as the galley (kitchen), cleaning or book fair teams. While work clothes and training will be provided on board, you will need to bring along willing hands to serve wherever you are needed! Along with a five day work week, a sixth day is designated for ministry or training opportunities.

Spiritual Growth

Our hope is that every person on board deepens their relationship with God, and learns how to apply and share their faith in a relevant way. Community activities, such as morning devotions, study groups and prayer times, are all designed with this goal in mind. As well, you will have access to training and resources such as teaching mp3s and DVDs.

Description:
Provide leadership for the marine operations team in Mosbach and assist in assigned technical projects , provide on board oversight and support in order to help ensure continued maritime compliancy and safe and reliable operations of the ship.

Requirements:
-Technical educational or experiential background.
-Previous ship experience in the technical team.
-Experience in purchasing in a corporate setting.
-Technical knowledge appropriate to projects.
-Good ability in writing and speaking in both English and German.
-Experience in project management, preferably in a corporate setting.
-Computer literate
-Organizational and administrative abilities

We are looking for someone to lead artistically the theatre production on board the Logos Hope (currently The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe) and to assist with management of the audience during show times.

Requirements:

-Wiling to serve. Sees leadership as a service. Puts all leadership tasks within the perspective of serving people.

Assist the Theatre Arts Coordinator in leading theatre production on board the Logos Hope (currently The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe), to manage the scheduling and morale of the cast members, and to ensure the smooth running of the theatre production in performance.
