Power Up Logos Hope - Overview

Power Up Logos Hope

Logos Hope was launched in 2009 and already two million visitors have come aboard in over 30 countries. Almost 2.5 million books were purchased and thousands more have been given away. However, new maritime laws combined with the risks associated with running the two older generators on board are forcing the ship to be taken out of service temporarily to conduct a major refit on board.

The Power Up Logos Hope project will involve the replacement of two generators, the main electrical switchboard and the installation of a new Heat Recovery System. The €6.4 million / $8.3 million project is vital to the continued ministry of Logos Hope. The following factors make this project essential to the health and stability of future ministry:

  • Replacement – the generators are 40 years old and insufficient to fully power Logos Hope.
  • Sustainability – the new generators will be more economical to run, saving €210,000 / $275,000 per year.
  • Efficiency – the Heat Recovery System will facilitate the recycling of excess heat, saving an additional €145,000 / $185,000 per year.
  • Safety – new maritime law requires increased levels of electrical capacity on board, both for daily operations as well as for backup power. If any of the ship’s generators break down, the ship will not be permitted to sail on until it is repaired.

More than half of the world has historically been sealed off from the Gospel because of barriers of culture and language. Countless people groups exist without a viable, indigenous church. OM Ships International is a part of the global movement amongst Christian leaders to focus on the unfinished task of reaching the unreached peoples of the world. The continued ministry of Logos Hope, and other ships to come in the future, is a vital part of fulfilling this vision.
